For more than a
decade, millions of radio listeners have woken up early
in the morning to laugh
along with the Spanish radio superstar, Luis
Jimenez. With his recent move to media giant
Univision, Jimenez will brings his special brand
of irreverent humor to an even bigger audience.
The Luis Jimenez Show is the best way to wake up
in the mornings, with the most popular radio morning
host in the United States. The show is edgy and makes
listeners laugh while at the same time getting the
latest,
wacky news from around the world. The show provides
a daily fix of comedy, song parodies, celebrity
interviews and daily topics.
Over the course of 13 years on the air, Jimenez'
show, "El Vacilón de la Mañana," grew to become
the No. 1 morning show in the New York market, and
the most listened to Spanish radio morning program
in the U.S. It was syndicated in the U.S. and
Puerto Rico, and heard worldwide on the show's
website, elvacilon.com, which also became the number
one radio morning show online.
With
impeccable comedic
timing, Jimenez interacts with outrageous callers, as
well as his own colorful morning crew, and a
stellar guest list of celebrities
including Jennifer Lopez , Shakira, Jimmy
Smits, Geraldo Rivera, Andy Garcia, Danny Trejo, Steven Bauer, Emilio Estefan,
Juan Luis Guerra, and John Leguizamo. He’s even had some good sports who braved
sitting in the hot seat without speaking a word of Spanish, including Donald
Trump, Dr. Ruth, Magic Johnson and Don King.
He's also created an
incredible variety of zany
characters.
Jimenez' talents reach beyond radio. His
first album " Tortilla Party" was nominated
for a prestigious Billboard Latin Music
Award, marking the first time a radio
personality had received the honor. Since
then, he's released three additional comedy
albums.
Fans always show up in droves
to see Jimenez perform live. He's
sold out shows at
Carolines,The Comedy Garden at New York's Madison Square Garden and at the New
York Comedy Festival. Luis is also extremely proud
that in March 2002 his live show had
the honor to be the first Latin comedy show to be held at the world’s biggest
arena, MSG.
In 2005, Jimenez
brought his morning mayhem to the
big screen, releasing the feature
film, "El Vacilón: The Movie."
The movie had a nine-week run
in limited release, and the DVD
version was successfully released in
January 2007.
Jimenez's rise to
fame has been covered in various
international media including
Penthouse, Crain’s, The New Yorker,
Media Week, The New York Times, The
New York Daily News, CNN, CBS-TV,
ABC-TV, NBC-TV, Fuji TV Japan, BBC,
CBS' TheShowbuzz.com, Telemundo and
Univision, and others.
As a child growing up
in Puerto Rico, Jimenez was
fascinated with radio. When he was
six, his father offered to take him
to Disney World. Jimenez turned down
the offer, and asked if he could
visit a radio station instead.
Jimenez took his first steps in
broadcasting working as a part-timer
in Puerto Rican radio.
In 1989 he moved to
Orlando, Florida to work in a local
radio station where his friend had
become a program director. But
things didn't quite go his way and
the young radio hopeful had to take
work as a maintenance employee while
keeping his position on the air.
It was only a matter
of time before his charisma, wit and
talent won him the hearts of the
Hispanic community of Orlando. In
1993 his friend George Mier, who had
become Program Director at WSKQ,
invited him to move to New York to
host the station’s morning show. So
it was then, on August 9, 1993, that
El Vacilón de la Mañana was born,
and with it a new era for Luis
Jimenez.
His simplicity, his
down-to-earth style and his ability to connect with his audience made television
come calling. For more than four years, the tireless entertainer triumphed on
the small screen with two programs, "Sábado 47" and "WEPA!", which he also
created and produced. In addition, Jimenez is currently the voice of HBO Latino
and The History Channel en Español.
For his passion and
dedication, for his tireless
determination, for overcoming
obstacles, and because of his
influence in the Hispanic community
of the United States, Jimenez has
received many honors, including
being named the Padrino (Godfather)
of the National Puerto Rican Day
Parade of 2003. The official
announcement was made during his
radio program by former First Lady
of the United States and current
U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton of New
York.
Nevertheless, for the
still young entertainer the greatest
prize of all is his Family, who are
his pride and joy and his loyal fans
and listeners. It's to them that he
dedicates all of his success!
